What makes a camera game different from a screen-only game?

A look at how photo prompts change where the action happens, and what to know before trying Seek.

In a photo scavenger hunt, the phone sets the task, but the answer is somewhere around you. You might be looking at a reflection, a household object or a detail in a wall before you pick up the camera.

That changes the rhythm of a mobile game. There is a moment to read, a stretch of looking around, a photo, and then a result.

The camera is how you answer

Seek gives you photo prompts. You move between the cards, find a possible match and take a picture in the app. Seek checks the image and awards points for accepted finds.

The answer is not restricted to one placed collectible. Two people can interpret a prompt differently because they are looking at different surroundings. The judge may still reject a photo, so finding a possibility is not the same as guaranteeing points.

The setting changes the session

At home, you might notice shapes or materials in ordinary objects. Outdoors, a familiar route can offer patterns and details you have passed many times. You can also choose an area for a place-based hunt.

Seek does not provide a walking route or ask you to follow augmented-reality arrows. You choose where to go and when it is sensible to stop and take a picture.

Decide whether you want a clock

Explorer is untimed. Classic, Speed Rush and Trailblazer offer different timed rounds. A quiet solo session and a quick challenge with friends can use the same basic find-and-photograph idea without needing the same pace.

Check the practical requirements

Seek is an iPhone app. It needs camera access for finds and an internet connection for photo checking. Public leaderboard participation is optional.

Today’s Daily Seek is free. Additional solo and group hunts are part of Seek+. If you want to understand the game before subscribing, the daily challenge gives you a place to begin. The ways to play page explains the modes without asking you to commit to a particular style first.

Explore Seek for mobile games for ways to take this idea into the app.
