Four outdoor photo games for a walk with friends

Give a local walk a purpose with colours, patterns, tiny details and a shared photo hunt.

You do not need a new destination every time you want to get outside. A small game can change what you notice on the route you already take.

Try one of these formats on a walk with friends. Pick the route for the people coming along: the game should fit the walk, rather than send everyone searching for somewhere harder to reach.

1. A colour conversation

Choose one colour before you set off. Each person finds a different example and takes a photo. At the next stop, compare the shades and objects. A painted door, a fallen leaf and a shop sign can make surprisingly different answers.

This is an informal camera game; there is no need to assign points.

2. Patterns under your feet

Look for repetition in paving, railings, brickwork or shadows. Photograph from somewhere you can stand comfortably without blocking the path. Let each person choose one pattern to show the group.

If a location is busy, skip the shot. You are looking for a detail, not reserving a public space for a photoshoot.

3. The overlooked detail

On the outward walk, quietly choose a small feature. On the way back, show your photo and see who can spot it. Agree to use things visible from the path and leave plants and objects where they are.

4. Let Seek choose the finds

For prompts and photo checking in one place, start a Seek hunt with the Outdoors setting. Choose Explorer if you want to keep wandering without a timer, or a timed mode if the group wants a score to chase.

Hunts at a place let you select an area on the map. They provide things to find, not a guided route, so decide your own meeting point and where you are comfortable walking.

Custom hunts require Seek+. You can try today’s Daily Seek free, and photo checking needs an internet connection. Check the weather before leaving and keep the plan easy to shorten.

Explore Seek for outdoor games for ways to take this idea into the app.
